Frequently Asked Questions

What elephant trekking options are available and what are the prices?

Two options are available, both at Camp Chang Kalim near Patong: 30-minute jungle trek — Adults ฿700, Children (4-10 years) ฿600. 60-minute jungle trek — Adults ฿1,000, Children (4-10 years) ฿800. Infants aged 0-3 years join free of charge. The child price applies to children aged 4 to 10 years — guests aged 11 and over pay the adult price. Both options take you through lush jungle trails and hilltop paths on a gentle elephant guided by an experienced mahout. Operated by Camp Chang Kalim.

What is the difference between the 30-minute and 60-minute trek?

Both options follow the same jungle trail and hilltop route near Patong. The 30-minute trek is a great introduction — covering the main trail at a relaxed pace, ideal for first-timers or families with young children. The 60-minute trek gives you double the time on the elephant, allowing you to explore more of the jungle trail, take in more scenery and spend longer bonding with your elephant and mahout. Both include the same inclusions.

What time does the elephant trekking depart?

The tour starts at the safari camp at 09:00, 11:00, 13:00, and 15:00 daily — four departures per day. Hotel pickup is arranged before your chosen departure time based on your hotel location.

What is included in the elephant trekking tour price?

Included in both options: hotel transfer round-trip from the free zone (Patong, Karon, Kata, Bang Tao, Kamala, Laguna, Surin), raincoat, injury insurance, and an English-speaking guide. Not included: hotel transfer from other areas of Phuket (฿2,000 per vehicle, private, max 10 passengers, paid in cash on tour day). No food or drinks are included.

Are there any restrictions on who can join the elephant trekking tour?

Yes. Pregnant women are not allowed on the tour. Infants (0-3 years) are welcome at no charge and ride with an accompanying adult. Children aged 4-10 pay the child price. There are no other age or weight restrictions on this tour.

Is elephant trekking suitable for children and families?

Yes — elephant trekking is a popular family activity. Infants (0-3 years) join free; children (4-10 years) pay ฿600 (30 min) or ฿800 (60 min); guests aged 11 and over pay the adult price of ฿700 or ฿1,000. The ride is gentle and guided by an experienced mahout at all times. Note: pregnant women are not allowed on the tour.

Which hotel areas get free transfer and which are charged?

FREE hotel transfer (round-trip, included in price): Patong, Karon, Kata, Bang Tao, Kamala, Laguna, Surin. CHARGED transfer (฿2,000, private, max 10 passengers per vehicle, paid in cash on tour day): anywhere else in Phuket — including Phuket Town, Chalong, Nai Harn, Rawai, Tri Trang, Cape Panwa, Koh Siray, Nai Yang, Mai Khao and all eastern or southern areas. Note: the transfer fee is per vehicle, not per person — a group of 6 from Phuket Town pays ฿2,000 total, not ฿2,000 each.

Where does the elephant trekking take place?

The elephant trekking is operated by Camp Chang Kalim, located on Kalim Hill between Patong and Kamala on Phuket's west coast. The treks wind through shaded jungle trails and across scenic hilltop paths with views over the surrounding tropical landscape and Andaman Sea. Its location near Patong makes it easily accessible for guests staying in Patong, Karon and Kata, all of whom receive free hotel transfer.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear comfortable, lightweight clothing suitable for a jungle environment. The camp is on a hillside so closed-toe shoes or sturdy sandals are recommended. A raincoat is provided. Bring sunscreen, insect repellent, and a waterproof case for your phone and valuables. No change of clothes is needed as this is a trekking-only tour — you will not get wet.
