Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the longtail boat experience different from a speedboat or cruise boat?

The longtail boat is the most authentic and budget-friendly way to visit James Bond Island. Traditional wooden longtail boats with sun roofs (max 50 passengers) move at a slower, more relaxed pace than speedboats — giving you more time to absorb the stunning limestone karst scenery of Phang Nga Bay. Unlike the cruise boat which sticks to bay sightseeing and canoeing, this longtail tour uniquely includes a cultural visit to Monkey Cave (Suwankuha Temple) on land before boarding the boat. The trade-off is a longer travel day (08:30-18:30 pickup to drop-off) and no onboard toilet or air-conditioning.

What is Monkey Cave (Suwankuha Temple) and is it included?

Yes — Monkey Cave (Suwankuha Temple) is a unique stop on this tour that no other James Bond Island tour includes. It is a sacred Buddhist cave temple in Phang Nga province featuring a large reclining Buddha statue inside a natural limestone cave, surrounded by wild macaque monkeys that live freely around the temple. It is a culturally rich start to the day before boarding the longtail boat. The stop is included in the tour price.

Which stops does this tour visit and in what order?

After hotel pickup by minibus at 08:30-10:00, the tour visits these five destinations in order: (1) Monkey Cave / Suwankuha Temple — Buddhist cave temple with reclining Buddha and wild monkeys; (2) Phang Nga Bay National Park sightseeing by longtail boat; (3) Koh Panyee Island — set lunch at the iconic Muslim fishing village on stilts; (4) Talu Island — sea cave canoeing through hidden lagoons and mangrove forests with professional paddlers; (5) James Bond Island (Khao Phing Kan) — photos at the famous needle-shaped rock. Return to hotel by 17:30-18:30.

Is the national park fee included?

No — the national park fee is NOT included and must be paid separately in cash on tour day. The fee is: Adults ฿300, Children (4-11 years) ฿150. Infants (1-3 years) enter free. Please bring sufficient Thai Baht cash. Everything else is included in the tour price: longtail boat, hotel transfers from free areas, canoeing with professional paddlers, set lunch, life jacket, guide, and injury insurance.

Are there hotel transfer fees and which areas are free?

Hotel transfers from Patong, Karon, and Kata are FREE. Transfer surcharges (paid in cash on tour day, per person round-trip) apply to other areas: Tri Trang ฿100; Bang Tao, Boat Lagoon, Chalong, Cherng Talay, Kamala, Laguna, Mai Khao, Nai Harn, Nai Yang, Phuket Town, Rawai, Royal Phuket Marina, Surin ฿200; Ao Po, Cape Panwa, Koh Siray, Layan ฿250; Nai Thon ฿300.

How much does the tour cost and what are the prices for children?

Adults: ฿1,400. Children (4-11 years): ฿1,200. Infants (1-3 years): free of charge. The national park fee (฿300 adult / ฿150 child) and any applicable hotel transfer surcharge are paid separately in cash on tour day. Operated by James Bond Grand Vision.

Are there any restrictions on who can join this tour?

Yes — this tour is NOT suitable for: pregnant women, children under 1 year old, and guests over 70 years old. These restrictions apply due to the nature of longtail boat travel on open water. For guests in these categories, the James Bond Island by Cruise Boat is the recommended alternative, which has no age or health restrictions and provides a much smoother, more stable ride with onboard facilities.

What is the canoeing like at Talu Island?

Talu Island offers sea cave canoeing through a network of hidden lagoons, mangrove forests, and collapsed cave systems that can only be accessed by canoe — impossible to explore from any larger boat. Professional paddlers do all the work; you simply sit and enjoy. The caves and passages at Talu Island are different from Panak Island's Ice Cream Cave (which is on the speedboat and cruise boat tours) — Talu features tidal channels through mangroves and partially collapsed cave ceilings, giving an atmospheric jungle-meets-sea experience.

What is Koh Panyee and what happens there?

Koh Panyee is one of the most fascinating cultural stops in Phang Nga Bay — a Muslim fishing village built entirely on wooden stilts over the sea with around 1,700 residents. You'll have lunch here (set Thai lunch included in the tour price) at one of the floating restaurants, and free time to explore the village, browse handicraft and souvenir shops, and experience authentic everyday life in this unique stilt community. Koh Panyee also has a famous floating football pitch.

What time does the tour start and finish?

Hotel pickup by minibus is between 08:30 and 10:00 (your exact time confirmed by email 24 hours prior). The tour returns to your hotel by 17:30-18:30. This is one of the longer tour days due to the drive to and from Phang Nga province — allow the full day. The itinerary does not have specific timed stops as the longtail boat pace is flexible.
